Description of the team and role:
The UK DevOps team is part of the UK Operations and IT function which drives technology delivery and change across the UK business. The DevOps team consists of a Mendix low-code and a Salesforce development and operations capability; a MuleSoft API team and a SmartComms digital document team. The DevOps team has fully embraced new ways of working including Agile, DevOps practices, API-led development, cloud-first, and establishing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines (CI/CD).
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the DevOps team as the DevOps Portfolio Manager. You will play a pivotal role in identifying, capturing, prioritizing, reporting, and scheduling a portfolio of projects, opportunities and resources as they flow through the various technology stacks of the team. You will build relationships with the DevOps management team, project sponsors, product owners and project managers as well as maintain close links with the UK Portfolio team to ensure consistency in the process. You will also ensure that project schedules are estimated by the team and visible, and that preparation activity for projects to start is complete. You will be a trusted advisor to the business – explaining how DevOps and Agile work, how the business can engage with the team, how projects are prioritized and scheduled, and explain various DevOps services including Operations and Small Change.
This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you may need.
This opportunity is no ordinary Portfolio Manager role – Zurich has positioned the DevOps team as major internal application development and maintenance capability in the UK business. Agile portfolio management deals with how an organization identifies, prioritizes, organizes and manages the delivery of technology products and activities. The DevOps team has entered a period of rapid expansion and as a result needs a dedicated role to lead on the prioritization, initiation, coordination and organization of technology workstreams to deliver value (products and projects) to the business. You will understand and follow Agile portfolio management best practices through continuous planning, aligning projects and products with strategic objectives, program management, resource management, iterative release management, finances and light-touch DevOps governance. Further, you will support the DevOps management team in the evolution of its DevOps governance and delivery practices and have the opportunity to line manage junior members of the team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven, proactive, confident self-starter who will thrive in a fast-paced environment to join our highly successful DevOps team.
